Basic mIRC startup help file

• First download the program at www.mirc.com and install it following the instructions given by the install-program.
• Now start the program.
• Close the pop-up window with the 'about mIRC'-information
• Go to the menu 'File' and open the menu-item 'Options...'
• In the pop-up window you now get, go to the category 'Connect' (probably this will be the category already selected).
• Now fill in the fields 'Full name' (your name (or nick, haircolour, iq-score or whatever)), 'E-Mail Address' (e.g. pixel@aglami.com (it's probably wise to fill in a fake address)), 'Nickname' (the nick you want to use of course)' and 'Alternative' (put here an alternative nick, for if your nick is already in use on a server you connect to).
• The next thing to do is to select a server to connect to. In the same category in which you just filled in your personal details, there is also a pulldown-menu with a huge list of IRC-servers. Open the pulldown-menu and find and select a Slashnet server. A random StarChat server ('Slashnet: Random server') is fine. If no Slashnet server is available on the list, you can add one yourself by clicking the 'add' button next to the list. Fill in the fields 'Description' (e.g. a Slashnet server), 'IRC Server' (coruscant.slashnet.org (which is a slashnet server)) and 'Group' (Slashnet). Leave the other fields as they are.
• Right, now hit (not literally) the button below the pulldown-menu you just used, which says 'Connect to IRC Server' and wait for your computer to connect to the server you have just selected.
• When you are connected to the server and the server is finished sending information, like the Message of the Day (MOTD) and stuff, click in the bar at the bottom and type there /join #aglami (and hit the Enter-key).
• You should now be in #aglami! If you want to say something, type it in the bar at the bottom and then press Enter-key.

Help! It's not working!

I can't connect to the channel!
Check if you spelled it properly and see if you didn't forget the #. Also, did you put the / before join?

Waaah! Nobody talks to me!
In your channel-window, there is on the right bit with displays all persons present in the channel... CHECK if there are any names there besides yours. If not, there is nobody else there, you idiot!
If there is someone there, it could be that he is currently talking in another channel and hasn't noticed your arrival, or he could have gone to the toilet, to the kitchen... or out on a date.

It is still not working! Waaah!!!
Uhm, well, then I don't know what is wrong. Maybe you got a different version or something. Try to contact someone on ICQ or try asking in Aglami.
