Aglami.
What is aglami? Aglami is a beautiful teddybear which, when you pull the string on the back, says
"DIE!!". Or to put it in Luke's words: '...I have here a quote from a Steven King book which I feel sums it up perfectly: "The excitement wears off, believe me. Around the time they fish your second friend out of Boston Harbor with half his head gone, you realize Tom Swift isn't going to show up and help you whitewash the goddamn fence." Obviously this isn't an exact description of Aglami. The bit about them fishing your second friend out of Boston Harbor with half his head gone evidently doesn't apply. Aglamians don't have friends. And it's not Tom Swift who isn't going to show up and help you whitewash the goddamn fence, it's Ron Gilbert. Technically, Tom Swift isn't going to show up and help you whitewash the goddamn fence either, but he isn't as conspicuous in his absence.' Right, Crystal Clear! Aglami is not for the easily scared. Aglami is a newsgroup for Monkey Island fans, but not for your normal Monkey Island fan. Talk about Monkey Island has long died and I am not using dying as a metaphor here. Aglami is for Buccaneers, foul grog drinking monsters, zombie pirates. Aglami is for swordfighting, cake, and useless endless threads... oh, and for the occasional helping of foolish mortals who are stuck with their Monkey Island game(s) of course. |

"So where is Aglami? ", I can here you ask. Although primary located to Usenet, the decay has
now spread to ICQ, IRC and the WWW as well. A small guide: Usenet: This is where it all started. Usenet is a huge mystical place packed with little worlds called NewsGroups (NG's). One of these places is called alt.games.lucas-arts.monkey-island, which is commonly shortened to aglami. This place can be journeyed to by several ways. The main one is to get a newsreader, like Agent (Forté) or Gravity (Microplanet). Although Outlook has Usenet abilities, the use of this program is not really appreciated for several reasons, of which some are explained at this place. The other way is by use of a webbased service like GoogleGroups, but the use of a service like this doesn't improve your status in most NG's. One important thing to keep in mind is that in a lot of high traffic NG's top-posting is not tolerated. In Aglami newbie-one-time-posters are not bothered with this netiquet, but newbies who plan to stay around are quickly addressed on this non-top-posting agreement. For more on why not to top-post, read the Top-posting FAQ by Luke. |
